Whole House Remodel, Addition, Energy Rebate Work
This project was a whole house makeover of a 1963 house involving a two story addition, complete interior remodel, and energy rebate work that entitled the owners to the maximum benefits of the rebate program. Remodel, Energy Rebate Work
This job was primarily an insulation/air sealing project, driven by the owners desire to be comfortable in a beautiful home in a great location, that could not be heated to a comfort level on cold days. “Doing the right thing” from an energy consuming standpoint was motivation as well. The energy rebate program provided additional incentive to get this project rolling. The home originated in the 1940’s as a true log cabin. Two additions have happened since. Ted Stevens was a previous owner. The challenge: Seal and insulate this home without compromising its existing charm and beauty. Foam board was added to the exterior walls. The decision whether to apply the foam board to the exterior or the interior of the walls varied from one area to the next, depending on wall construction, obstacles, and keeping the look. A new “over roof” of the entire roof surface added 4” of rigid foam board and a ventilation cavity that dramatically improved roof performance over the original poorly vented and under insulated roof. New thermal “true divided light” windows and doors replaced all the single glazed windows. JADA also remodeled the garage, improving efficiency, function, and space utilization.
None of the character and beauty of this house was compromised by these improvements. It was beautiful and charming before the improvements, and remains so, with the added comfort and efficiency to boot. We are told the heat bills have been cut in half, with comfortable temperatures maintainable in the coldest weather.
